The Universe
MARS
When our story begins, Mars has been settled by human beings from Earth over the last 50 years. They have dug into the walls of various chasms on Mars such as Valles Marineris, building atmosphered spaces such as Marineris Station that plays a role in Book One. There is a slow-moving, long term plan to […]
EARTH
Yes, Earth also plays a role in the Series, particularly in Book Two and Book Four.
EARTH’s MOON
The Moon becomes a base for military and civilian activities throughout the Series, and it is there that Mars keeps an office to manage its relations with Earth.
MOSA I
The Mars Orbital Smelting Array or MOSA is just that—a station orbiting Mars at about 30,000 kilometers up which uses the sun’s rays to refine recovered asteroidal metals and then fire the ingots back toward Earth via rail launchers. MOSA is comprised of 9 doughnut- shaped sections arranged around the hollow tube where the “sunstream” […]
PHOBOS
The larger of Mars’s two moons houses research laboratories on one end and the main Martian Navy depot on the other. The probability drive, or p-drive, was first developed and tested on Phobos, a technology that allows animate and inanimate matter to be teleported between terminals. Coupled with a line of sight laser (LOSL), the […]
THE TAVERN ON THE EDGE OF TIME
The Tavern was created by T’chell many big-bangs ago. You see, his people thought they were so perfect that they decided never to change, so they asked their chief engineer to remove the dimension of time, which he did but he kept a back door open, a bubble on their timeless continuum, where now for […]
THE VORT
This is the refuge built by Prism for the Bimatterians in Book Four.
CALLISTO
One of Jupiter’s moons, Callisto has become an important site for harvesting hydrogen directly from Jupiter’s atmosphere. The orbiting CORC module is the first stage of the colonization project though the original colony gradually digs in below the moon’s surface and morphs into a way-point for travelers between the inner and outer bands of the […]
EUROPA
Another of Jupiter’s moons, this one covered with ice above an ocean kept liquid through geothermal activity caused by the moon’s elliptical core interacting with Jupiter’s gravity. This moon has a big role to play in Book Four.
OTHER WORLDS
The Hhrandy world, where Hharad and his hearthmates come from, the Wasp World, home to Zzaflima and many others, and Querteps, inhabited by small, purple, one- eyed, hexapod aplets all play a role in the Series.
THE ASTEROID BELT
Max and Elaine first meet out in the Belt as they are employed on a ship that recovers metal-rich asteroids and sends them in toward MOSA. The Belt is a dangerous place where stray and ricochet fragments, not to mention ice pirates pose a constant stream of threats.
Jupiter
Jupiter provides a steady source of high quality hydrogen, compressed by the planet’s mighty gravity well. But the giant gas planet also attracts much mischief and mystery, particularly around her moons Callisto and Europa, in Books Three and Four.
