About
Peter Darrach
The youngest of four, as a child Peter lived in suburban New York, central London, and on a farm in southern Pennsylvania. Who knows why, but he ultimately earned two degrees in literature, one of them in German. Peter then invested about four decades in various business endeavors, forty percent of which were in Europe while the balance was largely in the US.
He has worked in a broad range of industries including advertising, amusement parks, food manufacturing and marketing, hygiene products manufacturing and marketing, packaging and POS, business coaching and consulting, and executive recruitment. He has held titles such as general manager, managing director, vice president, chief commercial officer, CEO, president, and chairman. In his last business endeavor his leadership earned the company recognition from Forbes as one of the best in the business in the US—for five years running.
But Peter also suffers from being very creative which comes out particularly at Halloween when he makes his own costumes to delight or frighten local trick-or-treaters. Recent incarnations include King Arthur, Uncle Sam, Merlin, Pepe Le Pew, and an anonymous skeleton. (See the photos.) Animals also play a pivotal role in Peter’s life, currently including five cats, two rabbits, and two horses. “Lucy, my horse, serves as my psychoanalyst and has been very effective in treating my periodic disappointment with humanity,” says Peter. Vertical gardening and furniture making also contribute to his relatively high joie de vivre.
More seriously, Peter also hears muses whispering who have been telling him science fiction stories of late, featuring a hapless rock jock who is injured by an alien in the asteroid belt and then repaired with miraculous consequences. “I really can’t say where these stories come from,” says Peter. “I sit down to write and out they come. Sometimes, the characters’ personalities are so clear to me that they define what happens next. Overall, it is a really joyful experience, and I already look forward to my next book.”
