Hharad lives on the Hhrandy world with his hearthmates Sfara (a
delicate ecstase) and Hamasfim (a robust nutrix). Hharad is very handy
with a large (two-handed) sword, though previously he had been a
farmer raising hflim (like llamas). But he is thrust into the action when a
rift opens near his winter-bound village. He fights off the invading
“Wasps” and then stumbles through the rift and into the arena where
the future Wasp Queens are engaged in a battle to the death. That’s
where he meets Max. Sfara is taken prisoner in Book Four, and that
sets off the action again for Hharad and company.
